The FIBRAEC project aims to research and develop a process for transforming polyester textile waste (which is difficult to recycle and comes from pre-consumer sources, currently ending up in landfills) into high added-value textile fibres, which will be used as a raw material in the manufacture of new products, promoting the material recovery of textile waste and its circular economy (Fiber2Fiber concept).
This project, which has already been running for three years, has completed the use cases for the fibres obtained, developing new formulations for asphalt, concrete and mortar, seeking to diversify their applicability, currently focused on the automotive sector.
This project has received funding from the expenditure budget of the Basque Government’s Department of Economic Development, Sustainability and Environment and has been co-financed by the European Union through the ERDF (No. ZL-2025/00252).
